Bargaining session #2 finished yesterday at UC Davis! We met with UC for two days and made four packages of proposals on Equity and Inclusion, Job Security, Professional Development, and Union Rights and Power, as well as initial proposals on Visa and Immigration and Travel Reimbursement – 18 proposals in total. All of these proposals seek to improve UC researcher working conditions by making AR careers less precarious, more inclusive, and better supported.

Bargaining team briefing Davis ARs on the day’s negotiations.

UC administration has not responded substantively to the vast majority of our proposals, and where they have, their response has been counterproductive or even potentially dangerous. Their health and safety proposal, for example, would weaken health and safety protections as compared to the Postdoc contract. Of course this is unacceptable. However, we did make progress by reaching tentative agreements on Reasonable Accommodation, Work-Incurred Injury or Illness, Holidays, and Recognition. The next bargaining session is scheduled for June 10 – 11 at UC Berkeley. You can read all of our and UC’s proposals here.
