We, the Academic Researchers United/UAW 5810 Bargaining Team, are writing to encourage you to vote “Yes” in the Strike Authorization Vote that begins today.
A strike authorization vote is a process through which Academic Researchers (Project Scientists, Specialists, Professional Researchers, and CPPs) vote to authorize the Bargaining Team to call a strike if circumstances justify. While voting “Yes” does not obligate any individual to strike or mean that a strike will be called, doing so will send a strong message that ARs are united in seeking fair, respectful treatment at UC.
We urge you to vote “Yes” to provide us the authority to call a strike if UC’s conduct justifies such action.
From our perspective, UC has engaged in stall tactics—including:
- Withholding our July 1 pay increases;
- Not providing information we have requested that is necessary and relevant to bargaining.
Such conduct prevents progress on issues that are critically important to all Academic Researchers, and is disrespectful of all our contributions to UC. You can also read Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about the Strike Authorization Vote here.
We need to tell UC that we are prepared to take action in the event of bad faith bargaining. Please vote now.
Thank you for your support!
